Cayla Mattea Zeek is an artist from Lafayette, LA and graduated at University of Louisiana with the Visual Arts Department Outstanding Student Award. Her artwork is characterized by mixed media layering process with watercolor, pen, charcoal, acrylic and oil on canvas. She gathers inspirations from her many travels as well as her experiences growing up as a young woman in Louisiana.
In 2015, she started her own hand-illustrated stationery business after her middle name: Mattea’s Hand. During this time, Zeek began a position as a Middle School Visual Arts teacher at Ascension Episcopal School as well as being very involved in the community as a freelance designer/illustrator. In 2017, she became the youngest visual artist chosen to create an original artwork for Festival International. She left teaching the summer of 2017 to pursue art full-time, opening up a shop and gallery in Downtown Lafayette Louisiana. Zeek has curated many events in the community showcasing artists, makers, and musicians. In her spare time, she enjoys playing music, acting in local plays, Louisiana culture, and most of all artistic self-expression through painting.
